We have recently received feedback that our filter options in the App can be a bit confusing. The Monash FODMAP team really appreciate feedback and are always working towards making the App as user friendly as possible. The filters in the App have recently been modified to hopefully make the filters clearer.
So, why should you use filters?
The filters enable you to modify the food guide section to suit your individual sensitivities. The filters are most useful after you have completed the re-challenge phase of the low FODMAP diet and identified the FODMAP subgroups that trigger your symptoms.
How do you apply the filters?
- Open the app and enter in to the ‘Food Guide’
- In the top right corner click on ‘Filters’
- Click ‘enable filters’ and this will show you all the FODMAP subgroups
- Slide the bar to change your sensitivities, for example if you can tolerate lactose, leave this as ‘none’, if you cannot tolerate excess fructose move the slider to the right to – High. If you have found that you can tolerate moderate serves of a FODMAP group, you can also change your sensitivity to medium.
Once you have set your filters go back to the food guide and click into a food category, you will notice that the traffic lights have disappeared and some foods will appear ‘greyed out’. Greyed out foods represent those that do not provide a safe serving size according to your sensitivities. Foods that have not been greyed out are safe to eat at a particular serving size, all you have to do is click into the food to discover what the serve size is.

Image 2: Filters enabled and changed to a sensitivity to excess fructose
Image 3: You can now see the filters are applied and the traffic lights are gone. Granny Smith Apples are not 'greyed out', hence there must be a safe serve size for someone who is sensitive to fructose
Image 4: If you click on Apple, Granny Smith you will see 1 medium apple is 'greyed out' meaning it is high in fructose and therefore not safe to eat.
Image 5: Scroll down to find that 1/2 a Granny Smith apple is not 'greyed out' and therefore safe for you to eat.
